Folk trio June & the Pines wanted a live session video that felt like the night it was recorded — no studio gloss, no playback tricks. We filmed the whole performance live around a single campfire in a forest clearing, recording audio on site with a mobile rig so picture and sound share the same air.
The video launched the band's winter EP and became their most-shared release, picked up by two editorial playlists within a week.
Firelight flickers, smoke drifts through frame, and exposure swings several stops between verses. The brief demanded a warm, continuous take feel — but a single locked camera would go flat over four minutes. We needed movement without breaking the spell.
We choreographed two cameras — a slow slider push and a handheld roam — around the fire's rhythm, rehearsing moves to the song's dynamics. Practicals did the lighting; we only shaped them. The edit follows the performance, cutting on breaths and chord changes so it never feels cut at all.
